So I’m all of a sudden in California – decided to fly out to visit our daughter who recently moved here.  A bit of a culture shock to go from the Abacos to the busyness and sprawl of Florida and then negotiate a flight across country to the left coast.  Me traveling in sandals with a freakishly dark tan and carrying a BoatUS tote bag and a duffel bag with “Motu Iti” embroidered on the pocket.   Goldwin stayed on the boat in Vero Beach – doing boat projects and enjoying some leisure time on the boat.

Great to see Amelia but I missed her husband Grant, who was out of town helping his family.   I got to play with Crew while Amelia worked all day – at her new job at the Monterey Aquarium.   Luckily, she had a couple of days off so we could enjoy Carmel together.

We have been very west coasty – high-end shopping, dinner on the wharf, hiking, sunsets, and walks on the beach.

Here I am with all my packages – mostly baby gifts.  Don’t I look just the part, with my gorgeous accessory dog?

Then it was off to Garland Ranch Regional Park in beautiful Carmel Valley to hike up to a waterfall – which apparently doesn’t have any water this time of year.  But it sure was beautiful.

Crew was our hiking guide.

He had fun splashing in the Carmel River.

We spent the next afternoon on the beach.  It was such a gorgeous day.

Okay, it’s fun to photograph the granddog.

Here he is in action.

And of course we stopped for fresh strawberries and avocadoes from Salinas Valley.

Soon I will leaving Amelia and Crew – heading east to Florida to join Goldwin so we can move the boat northward, back home to Annapolis.

  1. You & Amy look great! Can’t believe how much Crew has grown. Glad Maggie pushed him the water and taught him how to swim when we were at your house! Baby gifts? Do tell! Love your blog! xo

  2. Oh, I want to go plan in the waves too! And I love the Salinas Valley strawberries so much. Several visits to Fresno in the past resulted in buying a cheap cooler and filling it with strawberries as luggage back home! Lucky you. Glad you got to enjoy Amy and Crew.
